A gift for today—and tomorrow

Most donors who make bequests don’t get to see the impact of their generosity. But thanks to tax-smart giving, an anonymous Case Western Reserve alumnus will.

The donor pledged $1 million from his IRA to establish the Opportunity with Distinction Scholarship at the university’s College of Arts and Sciences for undergraduate students majoring in math or physics. Now, he is making significant annual gifts as a Qualified Charitable Distribution to support the scholarship during his lifetime. Not only does this count toward his Required Minimum Distributions each year, but he also gets the satisfaction of seeing his gift in action.
